During SMT reflow, if the ambient humidity is high, the moisture will invade the electronic components, like BGA (ball grid arrays) and fine-pitch devices, the moisture penetrates inside and expands, this causes micro-cracking, and the damage is invisible, but in some cases, the cracks will widen to the surface of the components, the obvious situation is the swelling and collapse of the components, also known as popcorn, which will cause maintenance and even waste of the assembly.

Moisture in the ambient penetrates into the packages.

During heating, the water steam pressure increases, that separates the die and resin.

The water steam continues to expand under heating, blowing up the packages.

The water steam breaks the packages, which causes micro-cracking.


How does Climatest Symor® dry unit work?

Traditional desiccants are consumables and need to be replaced frequently, which is very inconvenient. Climatest Symor® PCB storage dry cabinets, low humidity drying cabinets, and ESD drying cabinets use molecular sieves in the drying units. Molecular sieves are the most effective and environmentally friendly desiccants. It can be regenerated during use and does not need to be replaced.

The entire dehumidification process is controlled by a microcomputer. When the indoor humidity is high, it will start to absorb moisture; when the humidity reaches the set value, it will stop absorbing and then discharge the moisture to the outdoors, which is automatic.
